Their heads raised up to me in seeming hope. I looked into their eyes to see a longing cry springing from their eyes. I am torn from taking their hands in mine or just giving them money or better scream... "Where is your mummy?". I hold back to think...These children roam round the streets of our nation everyday, yet our television preaches on child trafficking as if it's a stranger amongst us. No, it is everywhere! Every where we see a child subject to begging alms by the ones they call master. Oh yes! we patronize the trade of child trafficking when we give out alms in compassion to these children.
The truth is these children need SAVING and not 'patronizing'. Individuals, institutions need to ARISE and PRESERVE our next generation. It's shocking to note that most of the children who beg are girls. They are compelled to do it by their evil masters who lurk around in hiding, watching and making sure they do not run away.
I hear some of these kids are sold out to these evil masters by their parents. Sadly most of these kids appear like northerners.
Tonight what's important is not whether they were bought or are sold, I really do not care to know. 'All that is important is that all these kids need to be saved'. Out of this way of life, they deserve a better future, they need a better chance.
Lets start by rescuing them and providing a shelter for them, food, clothes, water and education. As a people we can do much more and as a nation we can't be stopped.
Again, Nigerian leaders have a major role to play in this. We can if we dare.
Please beginning with the Lagos State government please do something.
This story was actually inspired by kids seen begging in Lagos state. :(
